Consumer Reports: Chrysler Improved Reliability While Competitors Dropped the Ball

October 26, 2011

When I am shopping around for everything from a new watch to a new oven, reliability is key. I want to be able to rely on my watch to tell the right time, and if my oven doesn’t heat up correctly, I could end up with over-cooked or under-cooked food. The same is true for potential car buyers. What happens if a mother can’t pick up her kids from school or a husband can’t get to work because of car troubles? A car company should constantly strive for better reliability, but according to a recent survey from Consumer Reports, Chrysler has continued to improve while their competitors have slacked off.

For the survey, Consumer Reports collected responses from over a million car buyers who own or lease vehicles ranging from the 2002 up to the 2011 models. In rankings, Chrysler jumped up 12 spots, Jeep was up 7 spots, and Dodge was up 3 spots. Chrysler beat out Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and Ford, and Jeep was the highest-ranked of all American-made vehicles.

Chrysler Group LLC has been the underdog story of the year, a storyline started with Chrysler’s memorable Emmy-winning Super Bowl ad and proven with this report. Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge should be proud of their rankings with Consumer Reports, and the brands that beat them out should be watching their backs. Chrysler’s investment into updating their plants and plans to test out larger hybrid vehicles sends a clear message: Chrysler is gunning for the top.
