Chrysler 200 Commercial Takes Home Emmy

September 16, 2011

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards aren’t until Sunday, September 18, but last Saturday, Chrysler took home an early Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony.

Serial Pictures and Wieden + Kennedy’s commercial for the Chrysler 200 won the Emmy for Outstanding Commercial. The ad, which stars rapper Eminem, is mostly made up of shots around Detroit, and a narrator asks, “What does this city know about luxury? What does a city that’s been to hell and back know about the finer things in life? Well, I’ll tell you, more than most…Add hard work and conviction and know-how that runs generations deep in every last one of us. That’s who we are. That’s our story.” The ad ends with the text “Imported from Detroit” across the screen with the Chrysler logo.

The ad originally premiered during the Super Bowl, and I’ve gotta say that Chrysler knocked it out of the park with this ad. It strikes a great balance between appealing to the Detroit working class pride and showing off the class and luxury of the Chrysler 200. Add in a Grammy-award winning rapper to the mix, and it is no surprise that the Chrysler 200 commercial walked away with the Emmy for Outstanding Commercial.
